BATON ROUGE – Mason Scioneaux was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Scioneaux was valedictorian of the Riverside Academy Class of 2018. He is the son of Christopher and Karen Scioneaux of Vacherie.

Scioneaux was featured in a L’OBSERVATEUR “Looks Bright” article in 2017. At that time, he said his family has been the greatest support system in his life, always advocating for education to reach his fullest potential.

After hearing how his father dropped out of college due to the hardships associated with working nights to pay his way through school, Scioneaux set a goal to secure a scholarship to better his chance of success and lessen the financial burden on his parents.

Though Scioneaux said his No. 1 priority is academics, he also excelled in sports. In addition to being captain of the Rebels varsity football team, he participated in track and field and was a two-year member of the golf team.

Scioneaux currently attends The University of Mississippi as journalism major and political science minor. While in college, he has written various sports, politics and news articles for the Daily Mississippian, the college’s newspaper that is run by students.

He will graduate one year early in Spring 2021 and plans to attend law school at the University of Mississippi School of Law.
