LAPLACE—Riverlands Golf and Country Club, located at 500 Fairway Drive in LaPlace, reopened this week after being shut down to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
On April 3, St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre asked the local golf clubs to close for a while. Golf courses across the state of Louisiana were never mandated to close in relation to COVID-19, but those in LaPlace did at Tregre’s request.
The plea for golf course closures came early this month after the number of deaths in St. John Parish saw a fast increase and a curfew was put into place.
Tregre said, “As Sheriff, I feel that this was a decision to save lives, just as I implemented the curfew.”
Since these golf courses were not mandated to close, they were allowed to re-open at any time.
Following the recommendations of social distancing, only one golfer per cart will be allowed at Riverlands Golf and Country Club. Carts are sanitized after each round, and only five players are allowed per group. No congregation will be allowed on the golf course.
Riverlands is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday. The last tee time will be 2:30 p.m. Hours on Friday and Saturday are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the last tee time at 4 p.m.
