LULING – While chemical cleaning solutions such as Clorox and Lysol are flying off the shelves in retail settings, alternative disinfectant products are available locally to limit the spread of the coronavirus and other respiratory illnesses.
Since April 1988, Quality Cleaning Equipment & Supply has provided cleaning products for janitorial services and restoration contractors who clean buildings after fires and floods. The River Parishes store is located at 12715 Highway 90 in Luling.
From hotels and restaurants to schools and households, Quality Cleaning Equipment & Supply has contributed to clean, healthy environments with professional products like Bioesque Disinfectant Solution. According to the label, Bioesque has been proven to kill 99.99 percent of viruses, including human coronaviruses, in one minute.
The difference is in the chemistry, according to owner Garrett Monti. He said contractors prefer products that perform well and have certain attributes not found in consumer products.
“Bioesque is a product made from thymol, which comes from the botanical herb thyme,” Monti said. “Some of those other products could be toxic in quantity if you’re spraying 100 gallons in a building. With Bioesque, you can spray from top to bottom and not worry about that. It’s very safe to use and doesn’t require PPE (personal protective equipment) to apply.”
While the worldwide coronavirus epidemic has impacted production in ways never seen before, resulting in shortages of bottles, boxes, sprayers and pumps, Monti said Bioesque has been in steady supply. It’s sold in five-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums, available to the public at the storefront.
“We’ve got trucks coming in every three days with more,” he said.
Quality Cleaning Equipment & Supply also offers gloves and a unique make-your-own wipes case, according to Monti.
“It’s six rolls, 180 wipes and a container,” he said. “You put the dry wipes in a quarter of whatever disinfecting product you want, and it soaks into the towels. Now you’ve got wet wipes. When you can’t get the stuff you are looking for, you find alternatives.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends routine cleaning and disinfecting of tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, phones, tablets, touch screens, remote controls, keyboards, handles, desks, toilets and sinks. Dirty surfaces should be cleaned using detergent or soap and water prior to disinfecting.
