Garyville – Early this morning, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on US 61 south near Marathon Avenue which occurred at approximately 7 a.m. The crash took the life of Ashley White, 36, of Gramercy.
The initial investigation by Troopers revealed that the crash occurred as White was driving a 2015 Buick Regal southbound on US 61 near the intersection of Marathon Avenue. At the same time, a 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer was making a right turn onto US 61 southbound via Marathon Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, White’s Buick struck the driver’s side of the tractor trailer. White sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Seatbelt use on White’s part is unknown at this time. The driver of the tractor trailer was properly restrained with no reported injuries. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor, but standard toxicology results are pending. This crash is an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
While not all crashes are survivable, Troopers would like to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles, such as never driving while impaired, avoiding all distractions, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.
