Flatten the curve is a phrase often heard, but what does it mean? The first (blue curve) is the projected number of cases without taking precautions. The second flatter one has the same number of cases, but uses precautions such as social distancing. The flattening is to keep the number of cases below a level that hospitals are better able to handle. It allows for an efficient use of resources and a higher quality of care.
