LAPLACE — All of St. John the Baptist Parish Library branches will be closed until further notice. This includes all library programs, outreach activities, and meeting/study rooms use. Currently checked out items should be kept until the library reopens, and all due dates will be extended with the late fees waived.
Even though the buildings are closed, there is a great selection of free electronic resources for all ages.
• OverDrive lets the patron borrow digital content such as e-books and audiobooks anytime, anywhere.
• Hoopla give the patron access to the local library’s collection of digital titles such as movies, music and e-books. Users can borrow a limited number of titles per month.
• Zinio has over 6,000 magazines available and allows the publications to be checked out.
. Elementary, middle, high, and college students can get help with their schoolwork using the Library’s Homework Louisiana and Learning Express databases. Homework Louisiana offers real-time homework help and tutoring for kindergarten through basic college level, a writing center, career center and adult education center. Learning Express is a comprehensive, interactive learning platform of tests, courses, and career preparation for students and adults.
TumbleBook Library and TeenBook Cloud both offer a large collection of e-books. TumbleBook Library is geared toward grades K-6, and includes everything from talking picture books to books in Spanish and French. TeenBook Cloud has student-favorite Graphic Novels, classic literature, National Geographic videos, and much more.
Patrons can learn a new language through the Pronunciator database, which offers over 80 languages and information to study for the U.S. citizenship test. Community members can visit our Hobbies and Crafts Reference Center, which provides books and videos from arts and crafts to indoor recreation — all things needed to create something magical and spend valuable time with family members.
