LAPLACE—The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club was hoopin’ it up recently. Members met mentors in a basketball game at the St. Joan of Arc Family Life Center in LaPlace.
During breaks throughout the morning, officers and members sat together to talk about setting goals and making good decisions in this new decade, strengthening the connections between the officers and the boys.
Basketball is among the many activities presented by the SJSO for the DG Club. Several officers serve as mentors and work to guide these young men in building traits of good character that will prepare them to be productive members of society as well as assist these young men in obtaining skills needed to become positive influences in the community. These skills are introduced and reinforced through lessons, experiences, and interactions that deepen and broaden their knowledge to become distinguished gentlemen.
Noel Reese Jr. was the top winner in the free throw contest. He won a Raising Cane’s box combo. Jordan MacKenzie placed second and won a three-finger combo. All other participants received a Raising Cane’s gift card for a drink.
