LAPLACE — Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School Principal Dr. Shelly Chauvin has been chosen as Region 3 Leader of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators (LACUE).
Chauvin has implemented collaborative classrooms that bring conversations, digital curriculum content and assignments to her students, according to St. John Public Schools officials. She has embedded weekly professional development provided by the district’s instructional technology team for her fifth to eighth grade teachers to support them in designing digital content and curriculum to give students authentic learning experiences to prepare them for a 21st Century learning environment. Lake Pontchartrain Elementary currently has a 1:1 student computer initiative in grades third through eighth.
LACUE, a professional organization promoting technology in education, honors standout educators at regional and state levels each year. LACUE announced the award winners at its annual conference in New Orleans in December 2019.
