VACHERIE — Louisiana State Police announced that Keimone Mitchell, 27, has been arrested in connection to the fatal November crash that claimed the life of Ramon Domino, 28, of Vacherie.
On Nov. 2, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on Highway 18 at Abadie Street.
Preliminary investigation revealed Mitchell was traveling south on Highway 18 in a 2008 Hummer H3. Domino was traveling north on Highway 18 in a 2011 Nissan Altima. Mitchell crossed the centerline and struck Domino’s vehicle head-on. Domino was not wearing his seat belt and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Mitchell was also unrestrained and suffered serious injuries. Acadian Ambulance Service transported him to University Medical Center in New Orleans.
Mitchell’s toxicology report showed that his blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, and an arrest warrant was issued. On Jan. 2, State Police arrested Mitchell for vehicular homicide. Troopers booked Mitchell into the St. James Parish Jail on the vehicular homicide charge, as well as driving left of center and wearing no seat belt.
Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of making safe driving decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, and fatigued driving continue to be factors in preventable crashes, according to State Police. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained, day or night
