Teachers of the Year honored

LAPLACE — St. John the Baptist Parish Teachers of the Year were recognized during the Dec. 12 School Board meeting in LaPlace.
Elementary School winners, pictured from left to right, are Sarah Rabalais – Emily C. Watkins Elementary School; Gretchen Sherman – Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School; Angela McDonald – Fifth Ward Elementary School; Kimberly Bartley – Garyville/Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School; and Janelle Williams – LaPlace Elementary School. Joel Baer from John L. Ory Communication Arts Magnet School and Debra Washington from West St. John Elementary School were not present.
Middle School Teachers of the Year were, pictured from left, Kaitlynn Ledet Landry – Emily C. Watkins Elementary School; Carla Simoneaux – Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School; Jason Duhe – East St. John Preparatory Academy; Paris Irvin – LaPlace Elementary School; and Debbie Perkins – Garyville/Mt. Airy Math and Science Magnet School. Thomas Becnel from West St. John Elementary School and Michelle Bordelon from John L. Ory were not pictured.
High School level winners were Desra Joseph from the St. John STEM Magnet Program, left, and Lorenzo Edwards from West St. John High School, right. Not pictured is Stephanie Maney from East St. John High School.
District winners were celebrated for the next level of Teacher of the Year achievement. School Board President Patrick Sanders recognized Lorenzo Edwards of West St. John High School as District High School Teacher of the Year. Paris Irvin of LaPlace Elementary School was District Middle School Teacher of the Year, and Angela McDonald received District Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Dr. Brandy Vaughn of Fifth Ward Elementary was honored as a Leader of Distinction, celebrating the school’s first show of growth in the school performance score in more than five years.
