Lutcher finishes a tough season 5-6

LUTCHER – The Lutcher Bulldogs moved back down to Class 3A this year after two rough years in Class 4A. The Bulldogs went 6-5 in 2018 and 4-7 in 2017. The last time Lutcher was in Class 3A, they had won back to back State Championships. They came into the season looking to improve and advance farther than the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs had first round exits in each of the two previous seasons.
Lutcher had a disappointing beginning to the season with tough losses to Amite, 28-21, and St. Charles Catholic, 23-21, in games that they could have won. The Bulldogs rebounded with a couple of wins over Frederick Douglas, 67-28, and South Lafourche, 42-7.
Lutcher went 3-2 in District 9 -3A with victories over Berwick, 49-6, Donaldsonville, 25-18, and Patterson, 49-7. The two district losses came against eventual State Champion St. James ,34-13, and a very close loss to E.D. White, 17-14.
The Bulldogs competed well in the district games and were hitting their stride towards the end of the season. Lutcher earned a No. 20 seed in the playoffs and lost in the first round to Booker T. Washington, 47-21.
