LULING — The St. Charles Parish government raised more than $35,000 for the United Way of St. Charles from employee donations and fundraising activities during its 2019 campaign.
“We decided to make our fundraiser campaign a little more personal this year,” said St. Charles Parish Personnel Officer Dayna Parker. “In the past we have had a kick-off event followed by events all month; however, this year we had employees who have been positively impacted by the United Way visit each department so our employees can see first hand how donor dollars are impacting those we work with and know.”
Throughout the month of October, Brett and Allison Badgerow, St. Charles Parish Government employees, visited parish departments and shared how the United Way of St. Charles supplied the resources needed to help their son.
“United Way contributions help residents throughout the Parish, our son being one of them,” said Brett Badgerow, parish code enforcement inspector. “We are thankful for United Way of St. Charles and what they do for the community.”
On Oct. 24, St. Charles Parish Government held a pumpkin and wreath-decorating raffle in the courthouse. Government departments decorated pumpkins and wreaths while employees and visitors were able to buy a chance to win their favorite. The event raised more than $350.
The campaign celebration concluded the parish’s fundraising efforts on Nov. 14; employees and visitors were able to purchase pastalaya and bake sale items. In addition to a 50/50 raffle, those attending could purchase game tickets for a chance to win gift cards and purchase tickets to win additional raffle items.
During the celebration, United Way of St. Charles employees spent time meeting parish employees while thanking them for their contributions.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to spend time with the St. Charles Parish Government team at their end of the campaign celebration, playing carnival-style games, meeting shelter pets, and enjoying delicious pastalaya,” said Melissa Perrier, Campaign & Marketing Manager UWSC. “During this season of giving thanks, we are especially thankful for those who give their time, talent, and treasure to make events like this one possible.”
“As the Volunteer & Event Manager for United Way of St. Charles, I know just how much hard work, effort, and dedication goes into planning an event like this,” said Tamara Plattsmier, Volunteer & Event Manager UWSC.
