LAPLACE — Kita Harry, owner of Top Notch Essentials & Beauty Boutique, hosted her 9th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event on Oct. 20.
Over the years, the event has ranged from a Breast Cancer Walk, a Sip and Paint, and a Praise and worship to raise Breast Cancer Awareness and Acknowledge the Survivors with the help of Family and Friends.
This Year the Survivors were presented with gifts and a light lunch. The theme was “Give me My Flowers while I’m alive”. Some family members attended on behalf of their family members that are survivors such as Clarence and Marcia Triche.
Though attendance was light this year, its Survivors such as Maria Alexis (a Survivor of 28 years a residence of Wallace) keeps Harry inspired to continue the annual event. Alexis was a faithful attendee of many years. She can no longer attend the event due to health issues, so Harry makes sure she visits her and bring her gifts.
“Mrs. Alexis was so excited to see me, she said she had been expecting me to show up,” Harry said. “That really put a smile on my face and I am now looking forward to next year.”
