EDGARD – Riverside Academy traveled to Edgard on Friday to face District opponent and cross-river rival West St. John. The Rams have been dominated by Riverside in this rivalry recently and have lost the last eight games against the Rebels. The Rams broke that streak in a big way as they rolled past Riverside 56 – 27. West St. John went on a 70-yard drive and scored first on a Wantrell Williams 1-yard rushing touchdown. Williams also rushed for the 2-point conversion as the Rams took the 8 – 0 lead. Gage Larvadain got Riverside on the scoreboard when he followed with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. The point after was no good, and the Rams led 8-6 at the end of first quarter.

West St. John extended their lead to 14-6 on a 5-yard rushing touchdown by D’kyri Jackson.

Riverside battled back to tie the score when Larvadain hit Andre Murphy for a 5-yard touchdown. The Rebels added a 2-point conversion on a run by Ahmonte Watkins to even the score 14-14 at halftime.

The West St. John defense helped the Rams take the lead on a fumble recovery that was taken 30 yards for a touchdown. Williams added the 2-point conversion for the 22-14 lead.

The defense rallied again when Kailep Edwards recovered another fumble. Williams capitalized with a 5-yard touchdown run, and Jackson added the 2-pt conversion.

Riverside battled back when Larvadain hit Tairyn Lockhart for a 14-yard touchdown, but the Rebels still trailed 30 – 20.

Jackson scored his second touchdown of the night for West St. John with a 4-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 38 – 20. Larvadain continued to battle back when he connected with Watkins on a 62-yard touchdown to tighten the score 38 – 27. Williams scored again on a 25-yard touchdown run, and Jackson added a pair of 5-yard rushing touchdowns late in the game to make the final score 56 – 27. Riverside will host Country Day next week, and West St. John will be on the road to play St. Martin’s Episcopal.
