SCC runs past South Plaquemines 32 – 6

LAPLACE – The St. Charles Catholic Comets were looking to continue their quest for the 11-2A District title as they took on the South Plaquemines Hurricanes on Friday night.
The Hurricanes kept the game close in the first half, but the Comets pulled away in the second half for the 32 – 6 victory. The Comets scored first on a Keenan Gauff 72-yard rushing touchdown. Kaiden Jones rushed for 2-point conversion, and St. Charles led 8-0 at end of first quarter.
South Plaquemines came back in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown, but the 2-point conversion failed. St. Charles led 8-6 in the second quarter.
The Comets added another score with a Carter Chauvin field goal to extend the lead to 11 – 6 at halftime.
The Comets defense came up big in the third quarter with a fumble recovery. St. Charles would capitalize with a 2-yard touchdown run by Phillip Tran to extend the lead to 18 – 6. The Comets continued to control the game as they scored again with 1-yard touchdown run by Justin Dumas.
The Comets added another score late in the game on a 25-yard rushing touchdown run by Logan Forsythe for the 32-6 final score.
St. Charles will host the Cohen Green Hornets next week in an 11-2A district showdown. A win next week would give the Comets the District Championship.
