Two LaPlace men arrested in separate sex crime cases

LAPLACE — Two men were arrested last week in separate cases involving sex and juveniles.

Curvin Oneal Griffin, 45, was arrested on Oct. 17 for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old. The case was opened on June 14 after Juvenile detectives received a complaint. Through investigation it was learned that Griffin allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with the victim. Based on investigation, detectives obtained a judicial warrant and Griffin was booked with sexual battery (felony). He is being held in custody in lieu of a $25,000.

Arrested on Oct. 16 was Charles Persinger, 43, for seven counts of possession of child pornography. Persinger had previously been in Feb. of last year for the first degree rape of a juvenile. In 2018, juvenille detectives received a complaint that Persinger had inappropriate sexual contact with a juvenile on several occasions. Based on evidence gathered judicial warrant was obtained, and Persinger was charged and arrested Feb. 19, 2018 with first degree rape. Persinger bonded out of jail Feb. 21, 2018 on a $500,000 bond. An indictment for Persinger was subsequently obtained for additional charges – two counts of first degree rape.

Also, during further investigation, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant and found several images of child pornography in his possession.

Persinger was again arrested Oct. 16, and booked with seven counts of possession of child pornography (felony) (sex offense – registration required). He was released Oct 16 after bail was set at $35,000 bond.
