  • The River Region Chamber of Commerce will host its Annual Golf Tournament from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 18. Tee times available are 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. (if not completed by 12 p.m. or 6 p.m., end game), with registration one hour prior.   • The Riverlands Swim Team, the Stingrays, will host its first golf tournament on Oct. 11 at Riverlands Golf and Country Club at 500 Fairway Drive in LaPlace. The shotgun start will be at 11 a.m. The Stingrays will be hosting the 2020 River Parish Swim League Invitational and this fund raising event will help to pay for upgrades to the pool.   • SCC’s Alumni Association will hold its Chef’s Choice Cook-Off on Nov 1. The head chef must be an SCC Alumni and contestants should supply their own ingredients or secure a sponsor to pay for the ingredients. Please cook a recipe that will produce 150 servings. The food is considered a donation to the SCC Alumni Association and all paper products will be provided. A First Place award will be given and a people’s choice award.   • St. Joan of Arc will host a fun evening of Trunk or Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 26 at 412 Fir St., LaPlace. There is a $2 entry fee for children and concessions will be sold. Candy donations will be collected in the school office and in the gathering space of the church. To host a trunk, please email SJAtrunkortreat@gmail.com. Trunks will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The event will benefit the SJA Science and S.T.EM program.
  • Ascension of Our Lord will host a Trunk or Treat from 5 p.m to 7p.m. on Oct 27 at 1809 Greenwood Drive in LaPlace. There is a $5 entry fee for children and includes trunk or treating, face painting, hay ride and entrance in the costume contest. To host a trunk email amelancon@aolcrusaders.org. Trunks will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The events benefits the AOL PTO.
  • First Baptist Church will host a Fall Festival from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at 120 Ormond Blvd in LaPlace. There will be fun for the whole family with door prizes, free food, candy, bounce houses and a game truck.
  • St. Joseph Plantation is hosting its Annual Creole Mourning Tour daily until Nov 3 at 3535 Hwy 18 in Vacherie. This tour focuses on the customs and traditions of mourning in Creole Louisiana. For more information visit stjosephplantation.com/mourning-tour or call 225-265-4078.
  • Destrehan Plantation will host its Fall Festival on Nov 9 and 10 at 13034 River Road in Destrehan. Admission is $8 for adults and teens and children under 12 are free. The event will feature arts and craft vendors, house tours, food vendors. Antique dealers and live entertainment.
  • The 2019 St. John the Baptist Parish Andouille Festival will be held October 18, 19 and 20 at 2900 Hwy. 51, LaPlace, next to the St. John Community Center. It features music, good times and of course great food featuring Andouille, the delectable sausage for which the festival was named. Every year thousands of people merge upon the festival grounds for a fun filled weekend. The festival is presented by St. John the Baptist Parish along with Marathon Petroleum Company LP.
  • Louisiana Workforce Commission is hosting a job fair frrom 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct 10 at Regala Gym located at 200 Regala Road in Reserve. Laid off wokers from Bayou Steel are invited to attend this no-cost event to meet employers with current job openings.Please bring copies of a resume.
