Poché: Summer Reading Program is coming to an end

The Summer Reading Program is coming to an end for St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries. Each library branch will host an end of summer reading program activity for everyone who completed the program. The Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library (Reserve) will celebrate at 5 p.m. on July 29. The Norris J. Millet Library (Central) will celebrate at 2 p.m. on July 31. The Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library (Edgard) will also celebrate on that same day at 5 p.m. The Frazee-Harris Memorial Library (Garyville) will celebrate at 4 p.m. on August 1. Chill Sensations mobile snowball truck will visit the libraries to give free snowballs to everyone who completed the Summer Reading Program at the above times.
St. John the Baptist Parish Libraries has a variety of programs to attend next month. The Norris J. Millet Sr., Library will host a Parent Seminar at 5:30 p.m. on August 1. Parents are invited to listen and ask school representatives questions about the upcoming school year. Computer Classes for adults will continue at 2 p.m. every Wednesday. Crochet Classes are back! Adults are encouraged to come and learn beginners crochet techniques to create something wonderful. Participants are also welcome to bring in any project that they have been working on to finish during class. Taco Earbud Holders will be created at 4 p.m. on August 14. Tweens and teens are invited to this creative event. Adults are welcome to attend a Galaxy Wine Glass craft at 3 p.m. on August 15. Story time will be held at 10:30 a.m. August 15, 22, and 29. This weekly program is for young children and their parents to focus on the 6 skills of Early Literacy: Vocabulary, Print Motivation, Print Awareness, Narrative Skills, Letter Knowledge, and Phonological Awareness for reading awareness, along with fine and gross motor skills development. Parents and their children are invited at 4 p.m. on August 21 to learn about the library’s databases. Leroy D. Williams Memorial Library will host Walking for Your Health at 10 a.m. every Wednesday for adult patrons. Children, age two to six, are welcome every Wednesday for Wee Readers’ Book Club. On August 7 and 14, it will be held at 10:30 a.m. and on August 21 and 28, it will be held at 3:30 p.m. The monthly Make Shoppe will be held at 6 p.m. on August 12. Patrons will be making round farmhouse plaques. Registration is required for this program. Morning Makers will be held at 10 a.m. on August 20. Patrons will be making farmhouse or coastal picture frames. This program is limited to 10 people and registration is also required for this program. Frazee-Harris Memorial Library will host a Movie Matinee at 3:30 p.m. on August 1 for children age five and up. Children, ages six and up, are invited to paint a back to school photo at Simply Paint at 11 a.m. on August 2. Tweens and teens will be making Back to School Mason Jars at 3:30 p.m. on August 5. Drop In & Play will be held at 10 a.m. every Tuesday for children ages one to four. Puzzles, Legos, play-doh and more will be shared among children and their parents. Children, ages five and up, are welcome at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday evening for Pajama Evening Storytime. Adults are welcome to come and learn computer basics at Tech Class, which will be held at 11 a.m. on August 16. Roland Borne Sr. Memorial Library will continue to host Game Time for tweens and teens at 4 p.m. every Thursday. Games such as checkers, Jenga, Candyland, etc. will be played. Computer Classes for adults will be held at 10 a.m. every Monday and 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Children, age five to 10, are welcome at 5 p.m. every Wednesday for Story Time. They are also invited to participate in a Back to School Bus Craft at 4 p.m. on August 7. Tweens and teens will make Library Card Pouches at 3 p.m. on August 8. At 4 p.m. on August 21, children will design their own Coloring Page Bookmarks. Origami Bookmarks will be made by adults at 3 p.m. on August 22.
