St. John Parish issues storm information

EMERGENCY DECLARATION:
·        State of Emergency for St. John the Baptist Parish
·        Tropical Storm Warning, Storm Surge Watch and Flash Flood Watch in Effect
·        Prepare for heavy rainfall (possibly 10-20 inches), life- threatening flash flooding, strong winds, and power outages
VOLUNTARY EVACUATION:
·        A voluntary evacuation has been issued for residents in low-lying areas including:
-Pleasure Bend
-Frenier Landing
-Akers
-Peavine Rd.
-Areas that generally have issues with flooding during heavy rain events
CLOSURES/CANCELATIONS:
·        All Parish Government Buildings will close at noon on Friday, July 12, 2019
·        No summer feeding on Friday, July 12, 2019
·        All recreational activities are canceled
GARBAGE:
·        No garbage pickup on Saturday
SANDBAG LOCATIONS OPEN (8 am to 7 pm):
Please bring a shovel and prepare to fill your own bags. Please only take what is needed:
·        Intersection of Bamboo Road and Indigo Pkwy (near Lake Pontchartrain Elementary)
·        Railroad Avenue Fire Station (near Riverside Academy)
·        Ezekiel Jackson Park in Garyville
·        West Bank Complex
·        Wallace, Edgard, Lucy & Pleasure Bend Fire Stations
