LAPLACE — Frank Alexis Jr., an accounting manager with extensive government experience, officially announces his candidacy for St. John the Baptist Parish Council, District 4. The choice to run for District 4’s council seat is not the result of political prompting, deception, financial gain, or any other superficial reason.
Alexis made the decision to run for District 4 because he loves this Parish, has the capacity to perform the functions of an honest councilman, and has serious concerns for the future of this Parish. With principal goals of protecting and sustaining this vulnerable community’s financial, economic, and environmental health, Alexis intends to address matters needing restoration and be the instrument needed to implement programs in the Parish he loves. Alexis has roots in this Parish predate the existence of what many newcomers have heard. Alexis attended Mt. Airy Elementary, Sixth Ward Elementary, Fifth Ward, and Leon Godchaux High School, from which he graduated.
From there, Alexis went to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern University & A&M College in Baton Rouge. While we welcome everyone and are open to ideas, we also must be open to the fact that there is a time when new visions must be embraced while simultaneously respecting historical knowledge from truly vested partners and citizens. Alexis genuinely is vested in St. John Parish — not only because he was born and raised in Mt. Airy, because his family with whom he loves remains in St. John Parish, and because he volunteers his time teaching Bible study at multiple local churches — but because he intends to remain in St. John the Baptist Parish, the Parish that he has ALWAYS called HOME.
“I recognize that in order to grow, you have to know,” Alexis said. “Having studied business and finance and having worked in corporate and government arenas where I performed revenue agency, directorial, and consultancy work, I know that I can be a valuable asset to St. John Parish. My versatile experience working with individuals of varying socioeconomic, education, and political backgrounds enables me to be not only optimistic but also objective. I understand that I owe it to my constituents to do what is best for this community because when any one part of this Parish excels, the entire Parish excels.
“Moreover, I understand that economic and environmental health are critical components of a thriving community and government. We cannot simply acknowledge publicly known issues. We must identify the cause of the issues affecting the quality of life for the residents and pull those roots, including: drainage and flooding; quality and safe drinking water; construction that addresses flooding; and economic development that creates local, long lasting, sustainable jobs that enable residents to support themselves and their families.
“We owe it to ourselves to hold each other accountable the same way we would hold accountable any other person or entity with access to or control over our money. Similar to corporations, the parish president is this Parish’s CEO. Likewise, the council members are the board of directors who answer to the residents who are taxpaying shareholders. As a tax expert, I respect and commit to the concept of ‘being a wise steward’ of your earned tax dollars. Tax dollars wisely invested yields dividends to you, the shareholders, in the form of quality services that shall impact and upgrade your and my quality of life here in St. John the Baptist Parish.
I am not here to make ‘promises.’ However, if given the opportunity to represent you as Councilman for St. John Parish District 4, I will bring my dedication, knowledge, hard work, communication skills, and perseverance to the office, all of which I believe are the backbone of success for a successful parish. I thank you in advance for your consideration, and I will be available at times convenient for you. With that said, please vote for Frank Alexis, Jr. when you cast your ballot for Councilman District 4.
#HOMEGROWN.”
