BATON ROUGE — La Chelsey Francis was recently awarded a $1,500 child of staff scholarship sponsored by the St. John the Baptist Parish Housing Authority.

The Louisiana Housing Council’s scholarship presentation, held annually in Baton Rouge during the group’s legislative conference, offers funding in three categories: head of household, child of agency staff, and resident graduating seniors.

Francis was one of three children of staff members across Louisiana to receive the competitive scholarship.

Selections were based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community service and an essay assignment. This year’s scholarships also went to five resident graduating high school seniors and two heads of household.

Louisiana Housing Council has awarded more than $349,000 in scholarships since the inception of the program in 1988. The Housing Council is comprised of housing authorities, section 8 agencies and community redevelopment agencies across the state.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Housing Authority is located at 152 Joe Parquet Circle.
