EDGARD — In celebration of National Drug Court Month, the 40th Judicial District Adult Drug Court will hold a graduation ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at 2193 River Road in Edgard.

The event will recognize individuals whose lives have been transformed by the treatment and support provided by the program.

With their friends and families in attendance, this graduation will honor men and women who have completed an intensive program of comprehensive substance use disorder treatment, close supervision and accountability. National Drug Court Month is coordinated by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. This year marks the 30th anniversary of treatment courts.

In recognition, treatment courts throughout the nation are advocating to ensure continued federal and state funding for these effective, evidence-based programs.

Local organizers say this Thursday’s uplifting graduation is evidence of the tremendous impact the 40th Judicial District Adult Drug Court has had on the community and will send a powerful message that these programs are vital to the health and well-being of the state.

There are more than 3,000 treatment courts in the United States, annually servicing 150,000 people.

Since 1989, treatment courts have served 1.5 million people and saved billions of tax dollars.
