LAPLACE — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the local area until 7 a.m. Saturday (May 11).

Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches is expected for much of the area with isolated higher amounts of up to 6 inches possible through Sunday morning.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to Flash Flooding. Please monitor local forecasts and be prepared to act should Flood Warnings be issued, or storms intensify.

St. John Parish residents are asked to assist during breaks in the rainfall by keeping catch basins and drains near homes and businesses clear. Please also avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals, and on the side of the road that may impede drainage or become projectiles.

Use caution when driving during severe weather.
