Tammy Y. Houston said she is pleased and honored to announce her candidacy for St. John the Baptist Parish Council, District 3.

“As a public servant for 29 years, I worked at the St. John the Baptist Parish Library until I retired in September 2017,” she said. “During my tenure at the library, I had the privilege of being a part of an administration that provided literary materials and innovative state of the art technology to the citizens of the parish.”

A native of Reserve, Houston is the daughter of former educators, Villere (Billy) and Cynthia Bossier Houston.

After graduating from East St. John High School in 1981, she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communications from the University of New Orleans in 1985, in addition to a Masters of Public Administration, with an emphasis on public policy from Southern University in 1999.

Currently, she is the chairwoman of the Parish’s Civil Service Board.

“In announcing my candidacy for council, I relish the task of once again becoming a public servant,” Houston said. “One of the key roles of a council person is to be a voice for the people. I ask that the voters allow me to be their voice; as, I humbly seek support from the citizens of District 3 to vote for me and, ‘Let’s Make A Difference.’”
