Keller: Mothers deserve fathers’ support, especially on Mother’s Day

Next Sunday, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. It is a day we set aside to honor all mothers who should be recognized every day of the year.

I believe, without reservation, that mothers have the most important job in these troubled times.

What an awesome responsibility to be in charge of molding our children to be the God-fearing, loving, courteous, kind, honest and productive human beings we hope them to be!

Their roles are often taken for granted.

Fathers are quick to take credit when their children succeed, but rarely take the blame for their failures.

A few years ago, I heard someone say that the greatest gift a father can give his children is to love their mother in front of them. I’m sorry to say that I learned too late.

In spite of an insensitive husband, my wife did an excellent job raising our four children. For this I am forever grateful.

This Mother’s Day, please allow me to encourage fathers to help their wives be the type of mothers they desire their children to have.

If my Mother’s Day message seems directed to fathers, it is. I offer no apologies. I feel, without a doubt, that if our children are to have the mothers we want them to have, it depends on us.

To all the mothers, I say Happy Mother’s Day! Always remember that your children are God’s gift to you.

To the children, I say honor your mother on this special day. Make a commitment today to love, honor, and respect her every day for the rest of her life.

My final appeal is to the fathers. There is no better day than this Mother’s Day to make a decision to be a godly example for your family.

Decide today to love your children’s mother in front of them. In fact, the Bible says that you should love her as God loves the church.
