Local schools celebrate National Read Across America

LAPLACE — In celebration of National Read Across America Friday, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre and several fellow officers enjoyed reading and speaking to students at local elementary schools.

Sheriff Mike Tregre reads to fourth graders at LaPlace Elementary.

Tregre read “Delilah’s Delightful Dream,” a story about respecting others and cooperation and teamwork, for eighth graders at John L. Ory Communications Magnet School and Lake Pontchartrain Elementary and fourth graders at LaPlace Elementary.

Major Clarence Gray shared his love of reading with Head Start students at Garyville-Mt. Airy Magnet.

And, Sgt. Basil Trepagnier also enjoyed his time reading to students at Lake Pontchartrain.

Tregre and all of the officers stressed to students that reading is essential to success in their life.

Reading to students was a wonderful way to spend their morning, the officers said.
