Keller: You never lose when surrendering to God

Surrender, as described in the dictionary, is always about losing.
It says to surrender means to give up possession, or power, over to another; to yield or give up. According to the definition, it’s always considered a loss or giving up. Regardless of what we think, surrender is a losing situation.
In war, when the Japanese surrendered, they gave up all their power to the United States.
In sports, war or any competition, surrender means you are defeated.
As we go through trials and struggles in life, most people turn to everything for solutions.
Many give up, get depressed and go through life defeated, just existing and never really living.
They keep waiting and expecting people to solve their problems and give them a peace that only comes from God.
During those times, if people would only realize that to surrender to God is the only time you win.
Jesus had to surrender to God in the Garden of Gethsemane when He was going through a trial He was facing. It was then that He asked God if there was another way but added, “Let Your Will be done.”
As you learn to surrender to God in each given situation, you no longer have to surrender to your own impulses.
You lose a life, but you gain a life — a life much better than the one you lost. In the end, it turns out that nothing you lost was really worth keeping anyway.
