Keller: Grateful for wife’s faithfulness, love

My wife celebrated her birthday this past Monday (Nov. 26). I won’t give her age, but I’m 84 and she is a year younger.
In May we celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary. I tell people that I’ve loved her for 38 years. That’s right, because men don’t really know how to love their wives until they have a spiritual experience with Jesus.
In was in October of 1980 that I had that born-again experience and it was then that I started to read the Bible for the first time.
In Proverbs 18:22 it says that when a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing. Today, I realize that He gave me one of the best!
God’s Word also helps me to describe Jeanne. In Proverbs 31: 10 and 11 it reads: “Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her.” Proverbs 31:28: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Once while speaking to a group about the different kinds of love, I mentioned that I believe only God can love us unconditionally. On the way home, Jeanne said, “I’ve always loved you unconditionally.” I believed her, but being a man, I knew that men have a difficult time loving as women do.
I thank God that my three daughters learned how to love their husbands from their mother.
Happy Birthday, Jeanne! Thanks for being a godly, faithful, and forgiving wife.
Your Christian walk has been the reason our family is blessed with the love, joy, and strength that is needed to accept the challenges of life.
