Keller: Love of $$$ is evil’s root

Published 12:18 am Saturday, September 8, 2018

I’ve often heard people say that money is the root of all evil. That statement is not accurate. The Bible talks about money many times and states that the love of money is the root of all evil.

In Ecclesiastes 10:19 it says: “A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answers all matters.”

I’m reminded of the time, many years ago, when I was behind on a bank loan, my friend, Tom Smith, who was the bank president said, “The Board of Directors wants to know when you’re going to pay off your loan.”

I told him to tell them to read the Bible and quoted the above Scripture.

The bottom line is that without money, I couldn’t answer that matter, but later was able to pay if off.

Throughout my life, God has been faithful and blessed my family with all of our needs.

Getting back to the issue of money. Keep in mind that it’s the love of money that keeps worldly rich people in bondage.

I’ll never forget that a man I grew up with accumulated a lot of wealth. We met occasionally and he always talked about money. One day I told him that I knew how much he would leave when he died.

“How much?” he asked.

“All of it!” I sarcastically answered.

I know a lot of people who have been blessed with much wealth, but only a few who use it to bless others in need.
