Keller: Proud mom brightens day, creates new fan

As I was leaving the Shell station Monday morning, a young lady with a bright colored McDonald’s All-American T-shirt entered. Being a basketball fan, I know what a McDonald’s All-American is.

Every year, McDonald’s sponsors two All-American basketball games. The best high school boys and girls basketball players in America are picked to showcase their skills in a nationally televised game.

I proceeded to ask the young lady her name.

“I’m Yolanda Harris from Dallas, Texas,” she answered with a pleasant smile.

“I like your shirt. Did you know someone who played in the game?”

Proudly, she answered, “My daughter, Zarielle Green, who will be a freshman at the University of Tennessee this fall.”

“She must be pretty good!”

Mrs. Harris replied, “She is!”

She introduced me to her sisters, Stephanie and Montanya, who were on their way back to Texas after a weekend in New Orleans. They described it as a “Girl’s Thing Trip.”

I followed them to their car and prayed for a safe, trouble-free trip back home and asked God for Zarielle’s next chapter in her life to be one filled with great memories as she furthers her education.

As a basketball fan, I’ll be following her progress on the basketball court. Meeting the ladies was exciting for me, plus it gave me information for this article.

My experience at the Shell station Monday was a great way to start the week.
