RESERVE — The Lady Rebels continue to find success on the court, entering the week with a 25-6 overall record and a 7-0 District record that head coach Brandi Melancon attributed to consistency and efficiency in teamwork.
“We’ve been playing the same strategy throughout the season, and I think that’s a big part of our success,” Melancon said. “We don’t worry about who’s on the other side of the court and instead remain consistent in how we play.”
Melancon said a few players in particular stepped up against John Curtis during last Thursday’s “pink game” in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Sydney Joseph remains instrumental to the team’s success, ending Thursday’s game with 17 kills, five blocks, two aces and eight digs.
Meanwhile, Kate St. Pierre shined against John Curtis, contributing nine kills, five aces and nine digs.
“When we struggled offensively as a team, Kate stepped up,” Melancon said. “She’s going to be fun to watch next year as a senior.”
Melancon also commended Briley Becker, the quiet leader of the team; Lexi Johnson, a sophomore who played a strong defensive game on Thursday; and Abby Bourgeois, the hard-working team captain whose leadership always holds her teammates accountable.
Riverside ends District this week with a match against St. Charles Catholic Thursday, bringing the team one step closer to achieving Melancon’s goal of making it to the championship round.
