LAPLACE — A perpetrator raped and stole money from a LaPlace woman in the early morning hours Monday, authorities said.

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, a female was assaulted between 3 and 4 a.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Delta Road in LaPlace.

The victim told officers the perpetrator entered the residence, demanded money and forced her to have sexual intercourse with him.

Authorities said they do not have a suspect description to release at this time.

The victim, who was alone at the time of the sexual assault, was initially hospitalized but has since been released, police said.

Detectives said the perpetrator fled the residence with an undisclosed amount of money following the assault.

“This appears to be an isolated incident at this time,” a Sheriff’s Office release said.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS, SJSO dispatch at 985-652-6338 or the Criminal Investigations Division at 985-652-2773.
