LAPLACE — The River Region Chamber Board of Directors, after consideration and review, at its regularly scheduled meeting Aug. 24, voted to support the proposition for renewal of an 8-mill ad valorem tax for the St. John Parish Public School system in an upcoming Oct. 7 ballot.
The renewal is for a period of 10 years, beginning in 2019 and ending in 2028, and is not a new tax, Chamber officials said.
This renewal can only be used for the following: 1 mill – Retiree Insurance, 3 mills – Academic Improvements, 4 mills – Employee salaries, Chamber officials said.
“The Chamber supports the initiatives made by our local governments to act responsibly to ensure business sustainability and a high quality of life for its residents as they use efficient operations to make proactive progress,” Chamber statement read.
