St. John Parish school closures announced for Wednesday

LAPLACE — Due to the possibility of severe weather and possible flooding associated with Tropical Storm Harvey, St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools has canceled all school for Wednesday (Aug. 30.)
No employees should report for work on Wednesday.
School officials ask parents to monitor stjohn.k12.la.us, the district Facebook page and Twitter @stjohnsupe for updates regarding possible closures for Thursday.
Parents and guardians will also be notified via the district’s automated calling system should further closures be necessary.
In other school news:
• In accordance with the Archdiocese of New Orleans policy, the Catholic schools follow the local civil parish regarding school closures and re-openings due to inclement weather. As a result, St. Peter School in Reserve will be closed Wednesday.
• St. Charles Catholic School announced it will close Wednesday, with school officials saying Back to School Night will be rescheduled.
• In the interest of safety for students, staff and families, Ascension of Our Lord Catholic School in LaPlace is also closed Wednesday.
• Riverside Academy in Reserve and St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in LaPlace also announced they would close Wednesday due to the anticipated weather conditions. Classes are expected to resume on Thursday.
