Elijah Davis, the 12-year-old track athlete from LaPlace, competed at the AAU Junior Olympics last month in Michigan.

Davis finished third in the nation in the long jump with a measurement of 16.8 feet.

He ran the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.58 to finish 14th in the nation. He ran the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.63 to finish 19th.

The LaPlace Elementary School student was the only member of his local team to qualify for the national event.
