LAPLACE — A local apartment sustained heavy fire damage this week, but no injuries were reported as more than a dozen firefighters battled a blaze on Revere Drive.

Responding firefighters to 724 Revere Drive in LaPlace at 12:14 p.m. Monday observed heavy brownish/grey smoke coming from all sides of the residence, with flames showing from the downstairs.

The building on fire and adjoining residence were empty of occupants, according to a release from the St. John Parish Office of Fire Services.

The first firefighters on scene pulled a hose to make an initial knockdown from the exterior while a water supply was established from a nearby hydrant. Once the second engine made it on scene, crewmembers made the initial entry into the building, gaining control of the fire within 14 minutes, authorities said.

After investigating, the fire marshal was unable to determine how the fire began and marked it as undetermined. The Red Cross is assisting the home’s occupants.

“No injuries reported and the apartment received heavy fire damage,” according to a release from the St. John Parish Office of Fire Services.
