Ladies hit links, invite others to join them

LAPLACE — The incessant rains that have soaked the area in recent weeks held off long enough Saturday for the River Region Chamber of Commerce to hold one of its most unique networking events — a Women’s Golf Clinic.
More than half a dozen women turned out at Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace for a one-hour golf lesson by golf pro George Baker in a nice, relaxed atmosphere on the championship course.
It was the idea of Chamber Chairwoman Annette Wray, who “borrowed” it from another organization.
“I just liked the idea of it,” Wray said.
“Ladies don’t often feel very comfortable on the golf course at events, even if they’re included in a foursome. A lot of times they’re put in with others who have more experience than they do. This was a way for us all to feel more comfortable doing something we don’t normally do.”
Wray said she was thrilled with the turnout for the first session, which included St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom and other businesswomen from the area.
“We were just so excited that the rain held off for us to play,” she said. “We were able to get out there and have our event. It was perfect.”
There are three more sessions scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. on the next three Saturdays for female Chamber members.
There are spaces still available at a cost of $100. A cash bar is available.
Participants should bring their own clubs or may share with a friend.
To reserve a spot call the Chamber office at 985-359-9777. Space is limited.
