Keller: Humbling attitude can cure racism

Racism is alive and well today and getting worse.

Growing up in the ‘40’s, I witnessed racism and the hatred of whites toward blacks. I thank God that my dad was colorblind and taught us to respect and treat others as we wanted to be treated.

Racism was once a one-sided attitude.

Today, it’s became equally divided among the races. Some blacks have learned how to hate as much as some whites still do.

Three weeks ago, I watched Fox News with Tucker Carlson as the host. He interviewed Lisa Durden, a black professor at a New Jersey Community College, for her part in a Memorial Day event held exclusively for black people, which was hosted by a Black Lives Matter group.

When Carlson asked her thoughts, Durden interrupted him, saying “Boo hoo hoo. You white people are angry because you couldn’t use your white privilege card to attend the event.”

The school suspended Durden for two days after receiving complaints about her interview that her comments were racially insensitive.

Last Friday, after she had returned to work, the president of the college fired the adjunct professor.

Her response was that the school ‘publicly lynched’ her.

The school responded, “racism cannot be fought with more racism.” I agree.

Will we ever overcome the evils of racism?

Only when we as a nation obey God’s Word as in II Chronicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
