LAPLACE — A Garyville man linked to drug dealing is accused of attempting to bribe local deputies into not arresting him, authorities said.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated a traffic stop Saturday on a vehicle being driven by Ken Bardell, 36, in the 1500 block of Airline Highway in LaPlace.
At the time of the stop, deputies said they observed a significant amount of marijuana and ecstasy in the vehicle.
“Shortly after, officers executed a search warrant of the vehicle, where they discovered 15 individually wrapped bags — approximately one to two grams apiece of marijuana, a large plastic bag of about seven grams of marijuana, about 135 doses of MDMA and 6.8 grams of methamphetamines,” a Sheriff’s Office release said.
A surveillance camera videoed the traffic stop, police said, capturing the suspect attempting to bribe officers with $200 to not arrest him.
Bardell was booked with possession with felony intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with felony intent to distribute ecstasy, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, felony public bribery and contempt of court. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $76,169.50 bond.
Police said Bardell has been arrested more than 50 times in St. John Parish since 1998, including felony charges for possession, distribution and manufacturing of narcotics.
