Keller: St. John sacrificed many during WWII
Published 12:01 am Saturday, May 27, 2017
My Memorial Day weekend started Friday morning at the 19th annual Memorial Day Breakfast held at the KC Home in LaPlace.
That always brings me back to the Second World War, which I’m old enough to remember.
At the time, St. John Parish had a population of approximately one-fifth of what it is today.
Reserve was bigger than LaPlace. With that in mind, the residents of the parish were patriotic and unselfishly did their part to win the war.
At the breakfast Friday, the following names of the men who gave their lives defending our freedom were mentioned as TAPS was played.
