LAPLACE — Two dead bodies were discovered about an hour apart from each other Wednesday morning in LaPlace, authorities said.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 400 block of Fir Street at 6 a.m. to a medical emergency, discovering a male subject unresponsive and not breathing on the floor of a bedroom.

Officers and emergency services attempted to render medical aid on the man, identified as Samuel Cooper, 37, of LaPlace but were unsuccessful. An autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

Also on Wednesday, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 500 block of West Second Street in LaPlace at 7 a.m. after a passerby reported an unresponsive male subject in the ditch.

Emergency Medical Services personnel who arrived on the scene requested the coroner, who pronounced the man, identified as Brad Evans, 41, of LaPlace, deceased on the scene. Upon initial investigation, officers found no visible evidence of trauma to the body, police said.

An autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

At this time, Sheriff Mike Tregre said there is nothing to suggest the two cases are related.
