Keller: My faith comes with eternal promise

The best-selling and most read book of all time is the Bible.
I had a few in my house, but never read them until I was 45 years old. Today, I believe it is the inspired Word of God, which I accept without understanding many of the stories, especially in the Old Testament.
According to Hebrews 11: 1, “Faith is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Before I was a Christian, I was a religious person, a member of a church and regularly attended weekly services. I believed in God, but didn’t have a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus.
Like most religious people, I was caught up in traditions and man-made laws that were contrary to what the Bible says.
The most misunderstood command in the Bible is in John, Chapter 3. It tells of a religious man named Nicodemus who went to Jesus and questioned Him about eternal life.
Jesus’ answer is found in Verse 3, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
That confused Nicodemus and he said, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
Physical death will be the end of our fleshly life, but our spirit will live for eternity in either Heaven or Hell.
To spend eternity with our Heavenly Father, we have to believe that He sent His Only Son, Jesus, to shed His blood on the cross to wash away our sins and pray this simple prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I invite You into my heart. I believe You died for me and that Your blood pays for my sins and provides me with the gift of eternal life. By faith I receive that gift, and I acknowledge You as my Lord and Savior. Amen.”
