LAPLACE — There are book fairs, health fairs and church fairs.
St. John the Baptist Parish Library and Child Advocacy Services are coming together to hold the second annual Community Resource Fair from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 26 at the library’s main branch, located at 2920 U.S. 51 in LaPlace.
The free event is open to the public with light refreshments.
Krisy Rice, CASA recruiter for the River Parishes, says it will be a one-stop shop for St. John Parish residents to see what resources are available from nonrofits in the region.
“It’s a way for residents to learn more about what types of services are available to them,” Rice said. “We want to help them find services they might need.”
Rice said more than 20 vendors have signed up for this year’s event, an increase from last year. Each will have a booth where members will provide information about the types of services they provide.
Among the local groups expected to participate are the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Red Cross, Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center, ARC of St. Charles, New Wine Development Corp. and the Prevent Child Abuse Organization, which recently partnered with CASA on the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign.
“A lot of our partners are a part of the United Way campaign,” Rice explained.
