LAPLACE — A local driver avoided citation after his vehicle struck a St. John deputy Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said Cory Capdeboscq, 21, of LaPlace, pulled out of a private driveway “without looking both ways” at approximately 1:15 p.m. Friday and struck Deputy Kendel Harris.

Police responded to the collision in the 1800 block of West Airline Highway in LaPlace, where Harris was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police said Harris was released on Friday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Capdeboscq was not cited, but “placed at fault for careless operation.”
