Make your spring cleaning plans April 29 in St. John

LAPLACE — There might not be a better day to start your personal and community spring cleaning than April 29.

St. John the Baptist Parish’s Annual Spring Clean Sweep, which consists of a parish wide clean-up day involving community organizations, neighborhood associations, civic groups, schools and churches, kicks off at 8:30 a.m. April 29 at Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park on U.S. 51.

The efforts starts with the distribution of garbage bags, gloves, trash clamps and T-shirts and conclude at approximately 11 a.m.

As a thank you to all who help, free food, refreshments and music will be provided following clean-up activities at the Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park.

Groups and individuals wanting to participate are asked to sign up in advance at sjbparish.com or by calling Terri Abadie at 985-652-9569.

In addition St. John the Baptist Parish’s community clean up efforts, St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes industries are also teaming up to host the annual Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 29.

All households have the opportunity to properly dispose or recycle materials that are inappropriate for curbside pickup including paint, tires, used oil, batteries, scrap metal, appliances, electronics and more.

The New Wine Ministries parking lot is serving as the LaPlace collection location.

St. John Parish President Natalie Robottom and her administrative staff joined Judge Sterling Snowdy, Keep St. John Beautiful Committee Chairman Greg “Za” Maurin and community leaders to lead anti-littering efforts with the Leaders Against Litter Golden Litter Grab Friday morning.

Sponsored by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser, the group picked up bags of litter on Belle Terre Boulevard and Airline Highway in LaPlace, beginning at the River Region Chamber of Commerce.
