GONZALES — A LaPlace man died today (March 9), Louisiana State Police said, the result of a Tuesday wreck.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four-vehicle crash involving serious injuries on U.S. 61 near Louisiana 30 in Ascension Parish.

Troopers were informed today that 33-year-old Kevin Campbell of LaPlace succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Campbell was traveling northbound on U.S. 61 in a 2015 Dodge Charger. For unknown reasons, Campbell struck the rear of another northbound vehicle.

This triggered a chain reaction crash involving three other vehicles and ended with Campbell’s vehicle striking a utility pole. Campbell was unrestrained and sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash.

He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment, and authorities said he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash but toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis.
