Michel: Stay thankful for provisions provided

My youngest daughter Victoria has moved back home.

She didn’t want to lease an apartment for a year since she will be graduating from college in May, so she will spend the remaining semester commuting to Nicholls.

The first day she was home she watched as I scraped food off plates and into the sink.

“I forgot we have a garbage disposal!” she said with entirely too much excitement.

“And a dishwasher,” I added.

“And a washing machine and dryer you won’t need coins for,” my husband said.

A few days later, Victoria stood by the dishwasher and asked, “Are the dishes in here clean?”

When I told her that they were, she said, “You probably wash dishes every day.”

I just stared at her as she continued. “And there’s always food and drinks here. This is culture shock!”

Although she looks like my daughter, I have trouble believing it’s the same girl who left four years ago.

She acts as though she’s in a strange land. She’s not. She’s home.

Victoria’s gratitude for all that’s provided at home has made me examine my heart. I want to be sure that I don’t take God’s provisions for granted. I want to remain in constant awe of His goodness.
