Keller: Fun, sins passed down generations

With four children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren living within a 25-mile radius of us, Jeanne and I have an idea about what’s going on in their lives. Please excuse me if I mention them too often in some articles.
Frank Roth and Monique have blessed us with two of our great-grandchildren, Olivia, who is 4, and Charlie Marie, who will be 2 next month. (Charlie was named after her great-grandfather, Charlie Michel.)
When Frank and Monique want to go out, getting a baby-sitter is no problem.
Monique’s sisters, Elise and Victoria, are usually available.
Last week was such a time when their services were needed.
After Frank and Monique left the house, Olivia said, “Let’s do things that my mom won’t let us do! We can have fun and clean up the mess before mom and daddy get back.”
Elise and Victoria, easily influenced by Olivia, agreed. I’m told that they had a great time!
When Monique called to let them know they were on their way home, Olivia said, “We have to hurry and clean up and don’t tell mom what we did!” Again, Elise and Victoria went along with the scheme.
I understand that Frank and Monique had a good time, Olivia and Charlie did what they wanted to do that their mom doesn’t let them do and Elise and Victoria were happy the kids were easy to take care of, because they did what they wanted to do.
I thought, “How can a 4-year-old already know what to do about getting away with something she evidently knew was wrong?”
After not much thought, I, being their Paw-Paw, accepted some of the blame for passing down one of my character defects.
I was reminded that the Bible says the sins of the father will be handed down from generation to generation.
