RESERVE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District declared a vacancy for School Board member District 1 and will be accepting resumes from interested applicants until noon Friday.
The previous District 1 representative, Russell Jack, resigned his seat effective Jan. 26 to take a position as Registrar of Voters for St. John the Baptist Parish.
Jack has served as the District 1 School Board representative since 2003.
“I’ve loved serving the community,” he said. “Being on the Board, I’ve gained lifelong friends and experience. Working with the school system has been very rewarding and I’d like to thank my fellow board members for helping me get so much done on the west bank of the river. I’d also like to thank my constituents and my community leaders who stood with me whenever we encountered an obstacle.”
Jack said he is going to miss the people and the children but will stay involved in anything that supports the school system and the community.
Jack’s current term was set to expire in December 2018.
“Mr. Jack was, and I’m sure will continue to be, a tireless advocate for the west bank and a familiar face throughout his district,” Superintendent Kevin George said. “We are grateful for his more than a decade of service and wish him well as he continues to serve St. John the Baptist Parish.”
Applicants for the position must be at least 18 years, a Louisiana resident for the past two years, domiciled in St. John the Baptist Parish and District 1 for the past year and a current resident of District 1.
Resumes must be submitted before noon Friday to 118 W. 10th Street in Reserve, Attn: Board President Albert Burl III c/o Stacey Waller. Resumes may also be sent via email to swaller@stjohn.k12.la.us.
The chosen applicant will be chosen at a special School Board meeting Feb. 15 and will serve until a special election can take place.
