Freeman: South Central Louisiana Technical College opening new doors

The new Center for Advancement of Technical Education building was only a vision a few years ago but is now a reality.

Tuesday (Jan. 3) marked the first day of transitional moving in. Process Technology Faculty and Staff began the moving process with additional Departments to follow as the month of January progresses.

The move of all Departments will be completed by Feb. 1.

The additional Computer Lab and eight classrooms will allow for the continued growth of South Central Louisiana Technical College. Student population is predicted to grow from 900 to 1,400 students and allow for additional expansion of Industrial Instrumentation Programs.

Large open classrooms with modern furniture was designed and built to enhance the learning process.

Students will enjoy the improved technical equipment in their classrooms. Faculty will find the state-of-the-art teaching implements to supplement their knowledge and hands-on training.

A large courtyard, patio and student lounge will give students plenty of space to socialize and study together.

A new Customized Training classroom will be available to local Industry partners for training new hires and re-training employees.

An Assessment Center, equipped to handle testing criteria for multiple types of certifications as well as Industry testing, is now open.

The Media Center is big enough to accommodate large meetings for local business, government and organizations and is equipped with media capabilities for all types of presentations.

While the construction crews finish the last touch ups and clean the facility, it is a busy time for all on campus. New student registration is brisk and enrollment is easily going to surpass last Spring.

New instructors are going through orientation and being processed for classes beginning Jan. 17.

South Central Louisiana Technical College, Reserve Campus is like a hidden gem in the River Region. The new Center for Advancement of Technical Education building will be the Diamond for years to come.

Residents, Industry and businesses in St. John, St. Charles and St. James as well as the surrounding areas will be reaping the efforts and benefits of this new facility for many generations.
